Peter Larose has been working in economic development research and policy for nearly 20 years, with a focus on tourism policy, destination development, tourism land use and recreation, labour market analysis, and transportation.
Peter holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, with a specialization in economic development theory, environmental policy, quantitative research, and comparative methodology. Peter is a tourism policy and research specialist with extensive experience in driving change in complex, high profile areas of public policy. Peter has developed several tourism-related studies in recent years, and has an extensive network of community leaders throughout BC. Peter has worked on a variety of issues related to mountain resort tourism, including projects related to B.C.’s Adventure Tourism Policy, Park Use Permit issues, land user conflicts, Resource Roads, sustainability planning, resource sector collaborative frameworks, economic impact studies, and others.
Peter founded Larose Research & Strategy in 2013 after approximately 15 years in senior research and management positions in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Most recently, Peter was Director of Policy and Research with go2hr, and Acting CEO / Director of Policy and Research with the Council of Tourism Associations (COTA). Prior to that, Peter held senior positions with the Union of BC Municipalities, UBC’s Liu Institute for Global Issues, and research positions with the Government of British Columbia and the Government of Canada.
Peter is also Sessional Faculty in TRU’s Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts, and Tourism, teaching undergraduate courses in tourism research methods, sustainable tourism development, tourism and technology, and nonprofit financial management. Peter has extensive Project Management experience using the PMI methodology, with training in project planning, financial management, business analysis, communications, and risk analysis.
