The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) is now in its second successful year of operations as an independent not-for-profit organization supporting the resilience and health of Canada’s mountain peoples and places through research partnerships based on Indigenous and Western ways of knowing that inform decision-making and action.

We have recruited a stellar Board of Directors and committees, released our Strategic Plan, launched an initial 16 exciting research projects across Canada, developed a variety of complementary training and knowledge mobilization programs, and we are planning a new call for proposals to support Knowledge Hubs that will be released later this year. Exceptional operational and strategic leadership is required to ensure the success of this highly innovative mountain research program that includes diverse stakeholders, and is based on Indigenous and Western ways of knowing and doing.

CMN is currently recruiting an Executive Director to provide operational leadership, direction, and oversight for the organization, as well as support the collaborative development of network strategy with the co-Research Directors, Norma Kassi and Murray Humphries, as well as the Board of Directors . This new role will amalgamate two existing positions, the Board Officer role of President and the staff role of Managing Director. The position will report directly to the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will work with a network of diverse stakeholders, including researchers, trainees, Indigenous organizations, governments, industry, and not-for-profit groups to design and deliver new approaches to research, training, knowledge mobilization and networking.  These approaches must respect and empower Indigenous ways of knowing in the true spirit of reconciliation. This executive role operates in a highly complex environment and will be required to lead and deliver a diverse set of programs supported by staff working in multiple locations across Canada.

The position will also oversee all finance, human resource, compliance, reporting, asset management and risk management activities, and ensure communication, coordination and productive professional relationships with the Board and committee members, network staff, external partners, stakeholders, and others.

CMN looks forward to diverse range of applications from qualified individuals! We encourage women; First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas and the Network to apply.

Applications must be submitted by midnight Mountain Standard Time on Monday, November 30, 2020.
