CH’INDEE NEEKAII GWITS’AT: NANKAK GATR’ONAHTAN (FROM BOTH EYES, ON THE LAND WE LEARN)

Youth Training in Ethical Knowledge Sharing and Co-Production to Advance Northern, Indigenous-Led Conservation and Stewardship

Land-Based Learning
Land-based learning (LBL) is an immersive education experience that takes youth onto the land to learn place-based knowledge from elders, knowledge holders and researchers.

“Communities across Northern Canada are witnessing first-hand the devastating impacts a changing climate is having across Arctic ecosystems. Livelihoods, Indigenous culture, social relations, food security, health, well-being and a way of life, which have existed for generations are all being impacted.” (Natural Resources Canada, 2018)

Unique challenges require innovative solutions
In the face of climate change, biodiversity loss and mental health crises affecting Northern communities, Land-based Learning programs are needed to build resiliency for Indigenous youth, develop community capacities to understand and respond to environmental change, and contribute to diversifying economies while supporting adaptation and sustainability.

The Canadian Mountain Network is training the next generation of land guardians and researchers who will dedicate themselves to enhancing our understanding of environmental, economic, and social changes across the North.

Registration is CLOSED for 2023!

Thank you to all of the applicants who submitted expressions of interest. Due to our maximum capacity of 22 spots and the high volume of applications received, we will not be able to accept all those who applied. We apologize and wish you all the best on your journey toward furthering your training as a land guardian.
